Circle 9 is thrilled to once again present music at the 4th annual riverviewjazz.org PierFest at J. Owen Grundy Pier at Exchange Place, Jersey City!

Pierfest provides us the special opportunity to present our world-class Circle 9 Artists right here in our backyard & birthplace, the open & diverse community that is Jersey City.

You can look forward to enjoying the food trucks, salsa dance lessons, and Circle 9 and Riverviewjazz.org merchandise booths all Fridays in September at the Pier.  Circle 9 will be presenting their artists on September 23 and 30.

Admission is free and open to the public.

September 23, 6:00pm: Silvano Monasterios Trio

Pianist-composer Silvano Monasterios was born in Caracas, Venezuela.  He spent his formative years of musical training at the Jose Angel Lamas Conservatory encountering the great American jazz tradition in all its diversity.  Silvano entered the University of Miami in 2002 and received a full scholarship, earning a Master’s degree in Jazz Pedagogy.  Silvano relocated to New York City where he has continued to write and evolve while performing and recording with an impressive mix of artists including Larry Coryell, Dave Valentin, Nestor Torres, Paquito D’Rivera, Mark Egan, Paul Wertico, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Ira Sullivan, Don Byron, Troy Roberts, Todd Marcus, Juan Pablo Torres

September 23, 7:30pm: Karen Joseph “Mambo Cha”

A native New Yorker, flutist Karen Joseph is a legend on the New York Latin music scene and is a veteran of the great New York Charanga bands that helped to establish the “New York Sound” in the music, performing with Charanga ’76, Charanga America, Charlie Rodriguez’ Conjunto featuring Johnny Pacheco & Pete “El Conde” Rodriguez, Cachao, Johnny Almendra.   She has most recently with 10-time Grammy® Winner and NEA Jazz Master Eddie Palmieri.

September 30, 6:00PM: Ivan Renta Latin Jazz Quintet

“The new Carribean phenom!” – Eddie Palmieri

Puerto Rican saxophone virtuoso Ivan Renta will record a long-awaited new solo project for Circle 9 Records this year.

Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and raised in Coamo, Ivan Renta has become one of the premiere saxophonists in Jazz and Latin Jazz.  His ability to adapt to any musical situation has landed him on the stages of many of the world’s most prestigious venues and music festivals.

Ivan has an extensive list of credentials having performed in the NYC area for more than 20 years.  He has performed on more than 200 recordings with artists such as Tito Puente, Wynton Marsalis, Eddie Palmieri, Willie Colon, Ron Carter, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Jimmy Heath, Ray Barretto and the the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra to name a few.  

September 30, 7:30PM: Doug Beavers “Titanes del Trombón Feat. Jeremy Bosch

2019 Grammy® Winning Trombonist, Composer, Producer, and Arranger Doug Beavers has been hailed by critics and fellow musicians as a leading trombonist of his generation and “an arranger of the first-class” (Harvey Siders, JazzTimes).  As a leader, he’s recorded four critically acclaimed albums; his most recent release, Art of the Arrangement (Artistshare, 2017), was nominated for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards for “Best Tropical Album”. 

A current member of Spanish Harlem Orchestra and a veteran of the ensembles of NEA Jazz Master Eddie Palmieri, Beavers continues to lead a multi-faceted and active solo career touring, producing and engineering for top New York City and world artists. In July 2020, he launched his own hybrid record label and production house, Circle 9, empowering artists with an industry-forward, top-to-bottom solution to create and distribute their projects in today’s environment.
